Chairperson, Film London, he has been a major figure in the film industry in Europe and America since the 1960s. He was president of 20th Century Fox from 1979 to 1980. Sandy is currently an advisor and contributor to a wide range of organisations and projects dedicated to the development of talent and skill in the film and media industries.

14.02.2006 - The Pitch

Whether you are a screenwriter, script reader, director, producer, distribution executive, agent or in any way charged with selling creative material, this programme could change your pitching life. Eileen Quinn\'s detailed and entertaining workshop is based on her 15 years of experiences as UK producer. It takes a practical look at the marriage between art and money, and deals with the buyer\'s psychology, the investor\'s criteria and all the do\'s and don\'ts for a successful pitch. In interactive and illustrative role-plays “Pitching in the Food Chain“ will demonstrate how to put theory into practice.

13.02.2005 - Successful Teams And How To Overcome Conflicts

After a short compilation of movie sequences that treat conflicts during movie shootings, Jonathan Olsberg and Sandy Lieberson will highlight the \"human factor\" in the process of filmmaking, before Julia Persitzky and Astrid Schnellhardt analyse the development of conflicts from a psychological and communicational point of view and explore possible ways of preventing these conflicts from the start.

17.02.2005 - How Did That Movie Get Made? Spotlight On The Talent Movies Of The Week

During the Campus week several Talents are given the chance to realise their previously submitted idea for a short film.With this year.s host Walter Salles acting as mentor and supported by the Berlin based production company sabotage films, four digital short films have been produced.

Interviewed by English producer Sandy Lieberson the participants of the Talent Movie of the Week report on their experiences during the stressful weeks, that will reach its crescendo tonight when the Talents vote for the winner at the Farewell Celebration.

Internet & Filmmakers are harnessing the internet to market, distribute and finance their work in novel ways. Learn how feature, documentary and short filmmakers are reaching global audiences online. Presenting a variety of websites and clips, this session with Liz Rosenthal Digimart / Earthly Delights Films) will reveal how filmmakers can build loyal audiences that they can take with them to finance their future projects. Limited seating, only open to Campus-accredited partcipants

11.02.2007 - Calculating Risks And Taking Chances

Producer Iain Smith explores the themes of taking risks and the balance between art and money. Using clips from selected films, Iain will discuss how these issues apply to the films he has worked on and produced. He will examine the studio system comparing it to the independent producer and will explain the lessons that apply to you as filmmakers. Smith, one of Europe's busiest producers, is currently preparing WANTED with Russian director Timur Bekmambetov, (NI GHTWATCH). Iain's credits include Academy Award winning CHARI OTS OF FIRE and KILLIN G FIEL DS, Ridley Scott's 1492, Jean-Jacques Annaud's SE VEN YEARS IN TIBET, Luc Besson's FIFTH ELEMEN T, Anthony Minghella's COLD MOUNTAIN, Alfonso Cuarón's CHIL DREN OF MEN and Darren Aronofsky's THE FOUNTAIN . 15.02.2007 - An Indie Filmmaker's Guide To The Internet: Reinventing Distribution

The rapid growth of online distribution services is changing the way that films are being financed and distributed. After an introduction by Peter Buckingham from the UK Film Council, leading digital pioneers, filmmakers and companies will discuss a range of new opportunities and services available to filmmakers. Hear how the Internet is fundamentally transforming the relationship between filmmaker, audience and distributor and will change the kind of distribution deals you make in the future.

14.02.2006 - At The Cutting Edge

A journey through the extraordinary career of producer Jeremy Thomas. Beginning with clips from his early films such as THE SHOUT through to NAKED LUNCH, MERRY CHRISTMAS MR LAWRENCE, THE LAST EMPEROR, SEXY BEAST and his latest, FAST FOOD NATION, Jeremy Thomas will explain the rationale for the making of these films through to the creative choices and how they were sold and marketed. Thomas will explain how he started his own sales company, Hanway Films, and why having a sales company is the most crucial tool for an independent filmmaker. Sandy Lieberson will interview Jeremy Thomas on his work and then open it up for Q&A with the audience.

Legendary casting director, producer and 2006 Berlinale Jury Member Fred Roos has been involved in casting and producing some of Hollywood’s finest films, including AMERICAN GRAFFITI, THE GODFATHER, TWO LANE BLACKTOP, FIVE EASY PIECES,THE OUTSIDERS, VIRGIN SUICIDES and LOST IN TRANSLATION, to name just a few. From Harrison Ford to Tom Cruise, he has discovered and supported many of today\\\\\\\'s top stars in Hollywood. After the screening of a twenty-minute portrait, produced by Francis Ford Coppola\\\\\\\'s American Zoetrope, Fred Roos will explore the casting process and its crucial role in filmmaking. Moderator Sandy Lieberson will then open the discussion for a Q&A session.

In conversation with Sandy Lieberson (former president of production at Twentieth Century Fox), producer Iain Smith, one of Europe’s busiest producers, explores the themes of taking risks and the balance between art and money. He will examine the studio system versus the independent producer­ and what lessons filmmakers could learn from it. 10.02.2009 - Two Producers Sharing Their Secrets

Balancing the business side of movies with the creative side is no mean feat. From the outset, the filmmaking process involves endless meetings, tight schedules, strict budgets, deadlines and innumerable revisions. How do producers juggle all these responsibilities and handle challenges such as creative control? Sandy Lieberson, former president of production at Twentieth Century Fox, converses with producer Mark Herbert, joint managing director of Warp Films and low budget digital studio – Warp X, exploring the gambles of the film business and the balance between art and money.

Using his own productions as examples, he will discuss how it is possible to develop a film project, raise funds for production, find locations and crew, cast actors and get permits and music rights. He will examine the studio system versus the independent producer and what lessons filmmakers could learn from it.

Recipient of the British Film Talent Dunhill award at the London Film Festival in 2006 – an award that recognizes the achievements of new and emerging British writers, directors and producers – Mark Herbert has produced the award-winning This is England and Dead Man‘s Shoes, both Shane Meadows films, the short film Dog Altogether by Paddy Considine which he executive produced and My Wrongs by Chris Morris, winner of 2003 BAFTA Film Award in the short film category.
